Most of the Mormons are going to be like the Pharisees
“Right now in my life, I’m kind of reexamining things. I realized there’s a lot of the gospel of Jesus Christ that Joseph Smith mapped out, and then all these Mormon traditions and myths and legends that have built up. And most people in the church have them totally intertwined and don’t seem to realize the difference. A lot of the things that were pushing me away from the church, that I really hated about the church, had nothing to do with the gospel. It was all these Mormon myths, legends, and traditions. So I’ve been spending the last year and a half trying to separate the two. The stuff that’s real gospel doctrine I can get behind—the stuff I felt iffy about was never in The Book of Mormon or The Bible.
“Most Christians in the world don’t act Christian. The things they’re doing in the name of Jesus, even way back to the crusades, are the exact opposite of what Christ would want. And I feel like our church is no different. Especially right now as I’m sifting the actual gospel doctrine from Mormon myth, I feel like when Christ comes back, most of the Mormons are going to be like the Pharisees and they’re going to think, ‘That can’t be Jesus—he drinks Diet Coke and isn’t burning Muslims on the spot.’ I think they’re not going to recognize him because they’re going to be nitpicky about rules to obey and hate people who aren’t Christian.”
